I see art as a source of fuel – an energy that ignites your creativity, your emotions, your individuality, and that raw being inside of you. It continuously pushes me to seek deep within myself and to pull from my roots – and baby, my roots are endless! Whether it is a reflection of an unforgettable experience or simply an idea sparked from those doodles on my note pad, art pushes me as an individual.

I am currently a student at the University of Calgary in Fine Arts, and I am loving every minute of it. The push and challenge is a process that has aided in a strong connection with myself, grounding me and building my strength. Art has also pushed me to see this connection in others, creating a brand new faucet of inspiration. It is that collaborative effort which aids in my growth and discovery as an artist.

It’s time to let down those guards and experiment freely with no inhibitions. You never mess up, you only learn. Art can be scary, but it’s getting over this fear that makes you flourish. So put yourself out there and express yourself – whether it is through words, paint, pencil, movement, style, photographs, building, crafting, sound – the possibilities are endless. Remember to be true to yourself – and always remember to let go and let yourself be. Time to get messy!

Simply Beautiful

Waking up with a feeling of refreshment.

What’s next but the open path, with each step an everlasting thought which consumes and points you to what’s next. This thought that unconsciously guides your journey, leading you in the direction of discovery and the unknown. This energy is always pushing you to grow, fulfilling your desire to be more. More than what society plays for us, more than what might feel comfortable, but rather what hides in our thoughts and in what fuels our dreams. These thoughts are coated in the dewy sweet sweat on your sun kissed arms, the wind playing through your finger tips out the window, in watching the simplicity intertwined in living a life, it’s in those early mornings when the mist sits low hugging the mountains edge, the late nights with your toes in the sand in a triangle pile of human connection, the endless laughs that seem to fuel your every moment, it’s the music of water slaps, pot claps, and honk taps, it’s the voices that carry you along, and it’s in your steps. Those steps that are all leading you to discover that something more. Take it in and register it as your own creation. Take your discoveries and your foreign memories to every morning your sleepy eyes blink open. Take that feeling and harness it as something familiar. Let it transform into your constant journey, your internal being. As it manifests as your own, it will never be lost.

As fresh as the mangosteens I slurped and the curries that helpfully cleansed, it’s my steps and my journey that will never go stale.
