The Abundance Acronym

The law of abundance states that there is plenty and prosperity in all things. The universe holds abundance in all energy forms and provides unlimited options for anything and everything we could want or need. Abundance is not simply about wealth or financial energy; it is a mindset that everything you need will be provided for you because the universe exists in abundance.

Your energetic vibration determines what you attract, and what you attract comes to you in abundance. Look around your life and observe your patterns and beliefs about love, success, money, creative expression, and personal fulfillment. There will be a common thread between all areas of life that will be evident through the law of abundance. If you are trusting in one area of your life, it will show up in all areas. If you are fearful in one area, it will also show up in all areas since it relates to the same root cause. The key determinant is the energetic vibration you hold around self-worth.

This is the work of 10 Calgary artists reflecting on what is abundant within our lives and expressing it through their unique lens.

for the ever present
abundance in my life

connecting deep
with the earth
and collective consciousness

a bridge is created

to the infinite

appreciating, allowing
recognition
of my place here

my heart opens wide

seeing intrinsic value
in everything
creating universal abundance

ps – Do things backwards

U is for Unity & Understanding
by Katie Green

Through allowing unity in the natural order of growth and decay, and of life and death, we begin to accept and understand a deep synthesis of self and of our existence and energy in this world. This awareness opens our consciousness, our purpose, and our discovery. This journey is a time where we face our inner darkness in all its forms, and see that it guides us to our inner light where an unconditional source of abundance is awakened.

This unity reminds us that we are forever in this natural world, untouched as our spirits breathe. As equals to this earth, we free ourselves from the limits of knowing only our kind, tuning into the primal rhythms in which we all share the same roots. Releasing the superiority that holds our species, we are brought closer to self-truth and self-abundance. Sigh like the wind, open your chest and feel us attach as the connection of spirit reminds us that we are all born one.

N is for New, Next and Not Relevant
by Henry Raul Yu

D is for Diversity
by David “The Kid Belo” Brunning

A is for Action
by Jermaine Bucknor

This piece represents a call for action. All products are manufactured with a predetermined shelf life, nothing is “built to last”. If we continue to accept this existing state of affairs and continue to consume till we have “everything” but really nothing; and discard it after it out lives our attention span we will not be able to acquire true abundance. Through our path of self (the world as it exists within us) actualization we need to determine what our life is truly abundant in so we can share with those around us and connect on a level beyond our material possessions. I chose to use everyday discarded products as my medium to show that everything exists for a greater good and has a use. If we strive to find that use we can help to preserve our existence and and that of future generations to come. The world will always be (a)round, will we?

N is for Nonsensical
by Daniel J Kirk

A balance between dark and light.
The nonsensical thoughts are abundant and allow for anything.
Embrace and surrender.

C is for Craftsmanship
by Conrad Bishop

It is fascinating to witness the countless examples of ingenuity developed by human beings as we all seek to create homes and social environments for ourselves. The intrigue and satisfaction felt when skillfully problem solving your way to a functional solution whether it be a home, piece of music, garden, or even a debate is the result of having the ability and understanding to manipulate or craft ones medium, whatever it may be. our ability to make real our intentions is relatable to so much more than carpentry, and it is through this “hands on approach” to life if you will, that great fulfillment can be achieved.

E is for Everyday Evolutionaries
by Cody Thompson & Kai CB

looking around we see reflections of change
within one, within all, shifting forward the uni brain

subtle yet profound transformations in thought
give rise to actions that trancend the packaged and bought

from diet recalibration
to locking down a solid passion perpetuating station

those inspired to let be their heart’s true callin’
we salute you
for moment to moment you redefine what it means to be ballin’

John & Jen’s Permablitz

A fun day of discovery, hard work, laughs and the implementation of some foundational sustainable development was shared at John & Jen’s cozy home on May 12th, 2012. Lead by the Leaf Ninjas, a hand full of eager and passionate people wanting to facilitate a change did exactly that. Perhaps it was just a single front yard that changed but that’s exactly where the shift to a more regenerative way of living is going to start. And within the Calgary Community things are off to a tremendous start; lush in potential, with many on-the-ground projects in action and countless creative people keen on learning how they can adapt and integrate their lifestyles to co-create that shift we are all calling for.
It was an honor to help this young family create a beautiful garden and help their life continue to grow in a sustainable direction. This garden will help continue the link between this family’s personal, professional and volunteer commitment to sustainability. John is the President and Founder of Intelligent Futures (a consulting firm committed to sustainable solutions) and recently became President of LEAD Canada as well (their mission: To inspire leadership and change for a sustainable world). We hope this small ripple helps nudge our civilization’s evolution into harmony with the natural.

t r a n s f o r m a t o r y – experiencing the spring & summer of 2012

This season marks the re-definition of our dream, a transformation of our collaborative practice and an honoring of our creative callings.
It’s funny how we humans can set goals and get so blinded by the pursuit of achieving them that we lose sight of the essence of why we were taking steps towards them in the first place.
This season is dedicated to side stepping that common progress trap.

Light & Soul is ending its journey as a clothing company
but is beginning its journey as an arts collaborative.

During our adventure as a clothing company we were blessed to have had the opportunity to work with many talented and creative individuals, be involved within the lush and co-creative community vibe that is unfolding within Calgary, and be lucky enough to develop an arsenal of skills along the way. As we came to the end of our 4th year of playing the clothing game it was time to lock down a sustainable foundation for the company and step it up to play with the pros in the fashion industry. And after sitting down and doing some serious research and discovery as to the realities of creating a sustainable clothing company, we had to be brutally honest with ourselves and each other; we didn’t want to play a part in perpetuating the fashion industry.

It’s funny how hard it can be to discern what one is truly feeling and needing from what one “thinks” she/he should be feeling and needing.

All our support goes out to our friends within the industry or at the grassroots level following their passion and changing the game.
Howard Thurman once said: “Don’t ask what he world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

The lifestyle involved in the fashion industry, in perpetuating a mass-produced consumerist culture, was not an area we wanted to place our creative energy, it wasn’t making us come alive anymore.
So it was back to the drawing board, back to asking ourselves those important questions.
How do we wish to be living our day to day lives?
Where do we want to go?
How can we get there?
How can each of us play our individual piece in putting together this puzzle of living a dream?
And most importantly, how can this journey be as enjoyable as possible?

As we dove into these questions and got real with each other, common values and goals became apparent for Light & Soul. These were:

- Collaborating with each other and others in creative ways that allow for our most passionate selves to exercise themselves (organic collaboration)
- Cultivating community culture
- Supporting and sharing the stories of people living passionately
- Respecting and honoring our integral piece within the biosphere

With these at the core of Light & Soul’s essence we step forward, focused and prepared to let our creative potential unfold individually and collaboratively through art, design, murals and film.
Our goal is simply to cultivate community culture.
By attending and hosting sweet events and gatherings, while nurturing the growth and discovery of the interconnected web of relationships that form the community, and then collaborating within these resilient connections, we hope to play our piece in stewarding and regenerating this unique habitat we call home.

As a side quest (project) a few of us have started a company called Leaf Ninjas.
Leaf Ninjas is an urban farming and permaculture gardening team taking action and growing quality food in Calgary.
We will be growing some of the finest local and organic produce and cultivating sustainable gardens in order to help fuel the growing awareness of, and hunger for, a sustainable local food system.
We will be farming in the communities of Inglewood and Ramsay this season and will be collaborating with The Area to create a weekly farmers market.
For more info check out www.leafninjas.ca

Tis the year of transformation and change.
Some go as far as saying we are entering a “golden age” or second renaissance, but to say the least we are all just trying to find that beautiful balance.
As we individually discover what that means to us, we, as a community, will be holdin’ it down and figuring it out together.
And damn Calgary, you’re doing a mighty fine job.

Nothing but gratitude goes out to all who have come out and supported Light & Soul over the years,
all the people and organizations who have invested in our artistic visions,
all the shops who have been a keystone for our growth,
all the artists, musicians, riders and crazy creatives we have collaborated with and who embody the essence of what this company stands for,
all the hubs and communities from Cochrane to Airdrie, from Lethbridge to the Shushwap, from Vancouver to Victoria, from Whistler to all the gems in between who have embraced the potential of a ripple.
We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for you.
You’re an inspiration.
Keep on keepin’ on.

Much love
L&S

Urban Aggie Day @ The Area

A growing urban population is hungry for real food and real information on growing their own food. Being more self reliant about your health and well being are things that we have taken for granted for the last 60 years and left the food production increasingly to the industrial and pharmaceutical companies.
Urban Aggie Day is a glimpse into the realm of health and wholistic living for you and your family, as well as participating in a very strong community that is also based on health.
Share your knowledge, your passion, and your curiosity with hundreds of others in this reality movement.

Leaf Ninjas – “1st permablitz of the season”

Leading the charge in lawn destruction, Calgary based, permaculture designer Luke Kimmel rallied up a bunch of friends to begin transforming our own backyard into a lush food forest and one of Calgary’s largest permaculture sites.
This is just the beginning of the season of discovery and transformation. Through implementing permaculture designed gardens and food forests through out the city coupled with their urban farm, Leaf Ninjas have their sights set on helping co-grow a resilient local food system, helping people gain back the skills and inspiration to grow their own food and add their piece to the grassroots community culture that is emerging within Calgary.
