Returning To Cultural Basics

Returning To Cultural Basics - REVEAL - 2

“Returning To Cultural Basics” is a tale through the seasons, from dawn to dusk, from birth to death to re-birth. The artwork is a multi-media collage illustrating local ecological patterns and humanities place within it all. The work is an exploration and remembrance of Culture’s intimate tie with Nature’s rhythms. Utilizing printed photographs and text integrated within hand painted elements, the harmoniously disjointed relationship between Culture and Nature is playfully portrayed.

Returning To Cultural Basics is a collaborative effort by Ricole and Kai Cabodyna representing Light & Soul. Their son Indiana was with them every step of the way. The artwork was fabricated as a public piece within the community garden of the East Village and was installed by Stuart Olson. This 58 – 4′ x 10′ panel project will serve as the hoarding boards around The New Central Library until it’s completion in 2018. It was the intention of the artists to evoke a spirit of togetherness and to celebrate timeless ways of transferring knowledge and understanding.

And when you crush an apple with your teeth, say to it in your heart,

“Your seeds shall live in my body,

And the buds of your tomorrow shall blossom in my heart,

And your fragrance shall be my breath,

And together we shall rejoice through all the seasons.”
